Metan Horizon Worldilla nyt 300 000 käyttäjää
Aloitetaan Metalla. The Vergen mukaan yhtiön tuotejohtaja Chris Cox olisi kertonut yhtiön työntekijöille, että sen VR-some, Horizon Worlds:lla, olisi nyt 300 000 käyttäjää. Käyttäjä määrä on siis kymmenkertaistunut joulukuun alusta.
Meta’s highest-profile bet right now is a social VR platform for the Quest headset called Horizon Worlds. It was recently featured in Meta’s Super Bowl ad, and Zuckerberg called it “core to our metaverse vision” on the company’s most recent earnings call. During a virtual Meta all-hands earlier this week — yes, the Metamates one — the company’s chief product officer, Chris Cox, gave employees a previously unreported update on Horizon’s user growth.
He said that since Horizon Worlds was rolled out to all Quest users in the US and Canada in early December, its monthly user base has grown by a factor of 10x to 300,000 people, according to an employee who heard the remark. Meta spokesperson Joe Osborne confirmed the stat and said it included users of Horizon Worlds and Horizon Venues, a separate app for attending live events in VR that uses the same avatars and basic mechanics. The number doesn’t include Horizon Workrooms, a VR conferencing experience that relies on an invite system.

Yle ja Hesari profiloivat yritystä todella kattavasti, mutta ajattelin tässä jakaa mitä Bloombergin Kati Pohjanpalo kirjoitti rahoituskierroksesta:
Finnish software maker Relex Solutions raised 500 million euros at a valuation of 5 billion euros ($5.7 billion) in a funding round spurred by demand from retailers suffering from supply-chain disruptions.
Relex’s artificial intelligence products let businesses such as grocery stores forecast which products to buy, in what quantities, and where best to allocate space for the inventory in stores and warehouses.
“Global supply chain disruptions were one of the reasons why we decided to do the round, to enable us to grow,” Relex Chief Executive Officer Mikko Karkkainen said in an interview. “The past couple of years have shown many companies vulnerabilities in their supply and value chains.”
Spotifyn Joe Rogan -sopimus spekuloitua kalliimpi
Mainitaan vielä, että New York Times (NYT) raportoi Spotifyn lisensointisopimus Joe Roganin kanssa olevan ainakain 200 miljoonan dollarin arvoinen. Sopimuksen julkistamisen yhteydessä, vuoden 2020 toukokuussa, useat lähteet spekuloivat sen olevan n. 100 miljoonan dollarin arvoinen.

If you think about it, a metaphor I subscribe to is Mark is a lot like Bill Gates — he is someone who recognizes a business opportunity and is maybe the best on the planet at executing against it violently. Bill Gates was never really on the cutting edge of technology, and that’s why Steve Jobs, as you knew well, used to make fun of him.
He used to constantly lampoon and caricature him. So Mark is going into Meta, which is a cutting edge technology, without the skills to be a cutting edge technologist. That’s not what he does.
