Bloombergin Apple-toimittaja Mark Gurman raportoi, että yhtiö tavoittelee iPad-tablettitietokoneiden myynnin piristämistä uusimalla iPad Pro -malliston ensi vuonna. Päivityksessä iPad Prot saavat Applen seuraavan sukupolven M3 -prosessorit, OLED -näytöt sekä uuden irrotettavan näppäimistön, minkä pitäisi saada iPad muistuttamaan enemmän kannettavaa tietokonetta.

The next iPad Pro models — codenamed J717, J718, J720 and J721 — will shift to the next-generation M3 chip. They will also be Apple’s first tablets with OLED displays, the same types of screens used on the iPhone since the X model in 2017. They are crisper and brighter, and reproduce colors more accurately.
The new models will come in 11-inch and 13-inch sizes. That’s similar to the existing lineup, but the larger model is currently 12.9 inches.
Something else coming with the new iPad Pro, I’m told, is a revamped Magic Keyboard. The new accessory makes the iPad Pro look even more like a laptop than the current setup and adds a larger trackpad. That addresses a complaint about the current Magic Keyboard, which debuted in 2020.

Terraformista julkaistaan OSS -forkki
Mainitaan vielä hieman teknisempi uutinen: Joukko yrityksiä ovat ilmoittaneet perustavansa avoimen lähdekoodin “forkin”1 suositusta Terraform -protokollasta. Terraform on HashiCorp -nimisen seattlelaisen yrityksen rakentama protokolla, jolla eri pilvipalveluiden resursseja on mahdollista provisoida käyttämällä siihen tarkoitukseen kehitettyä ohjelmointikieltä. Voit esimerkiksi määritellä Terraformilla mitä serverityyppejä ja lisäpalveluita haluat projektiisi AWS:ssä.
Terraform oli alunperin julkaistu avoimen lähdekoodien lisenssien alla, mutta HashiCorp muutti kaikkien tuotteidensa lisenssit ns. Business Source -lisenssiksi, mikä asettaa aikaisempaa enemmän rajoitteita tuotteiden käyttöä varten.
Tämän seurauksena joukko yrityksiä kertoi aikeista forkata Terraformista avoimen lähdekoodin version nimeltä OpenTF, ja aloite näyttää saaneen merkittävästi tukea yhteisöltä:

En ole “shillannut”2 suosikki hakkeriani Simon Willisonia hetkeen, joten kun mies jakoi perjantaina pitämänsä puheen isoista kielimalleista (LLM) Automatticin vuotuisassa WordPress-kehittäjä konfferenssi WordCampissa, tarjoutui tähän taas tilaisuus.
Simonin puhe tiivistää hyvin kaiken mitä viimeisen vuoden aikana on tapahtunut ja keskittyy myös siihen mitä sovelluskohteita LLM:ille on viime aikoina keksitty. Puhe ei ole äärimmäisen tekninen, mutta se ei myöskään jää pelkäksi käsien heilutteluksi.
