Ukraina julkaisee NFT:n sotaponnistelujen tukemiseksi
Tämän on pakko kuulua tarinoihin joista en koskaan kuvitellut kirjoittavani, mutta Ukrainan valtio on kertonut lanseeraavansa NFT-kokoelman, jonka tavoitteena on rahoittaa maan sotaponnisteluja. Asiasta kertoi eilen maan varapääministeri Mykhailo Fedorov Twitterissä.
Fedorov ei paljastanut asiasta toistaiseksi enempää yksityiskohtia, mutta totesi maan hylänneen aikaisemmat suunnitelmat niin sanotusta “airdropista”, joka on kryptomaailmassa suosittu palkitsemis- ja markkinointikeino. The Guardianilta:
Ukraine has announced it will issue non-fungible tokens to fund its armed forces, as cryptocurrency becomes an increasingly popular means of giving support to the government in Kyiv.
Mykhailo Fedorov, Ukraine’s vice-prime minister, said on Twitter on Thursday that the government would soon issue NFTs to help pay for its military.

Fedorov did not give further details of the NFTs but said the government had cancelled earlier plans to reward cryptocurrency donors with an airdrop, a free digital token typically used by the crypto community to encourage participation in a project.
The Guardianin mukaan Ukrainan valtio on nyt kerännyt yli 50 miljoonaa dollaria kryptovaluuttojen muodossa.
Shopifyn halventunut osake vaikuttaa henkilöstöön
The Information raportoi, että Shopifylta on viime aikoina lähtenyt useampi korkeassa asemassa oleva työntekijä kompensaation takia. Syy tähän on, että Shopifyllä on suhteellisen matala peruspalkka verrattuna sen kilpailijoihin teknologia-alalla, mutta peruspalkkaa kompensoi erilaiset työntekijöille tarjotut osakeoptiot. Shopify has historically offered low base salaries, in line with Canadian nontech firms, an approach that has been offset by stock awards whose value has soared as the company’s stock rocketed. But a plunge in the stock price lately has slashed the value of recent stock grants, unsettling employees. While some companies including Amazon have dealt with similar issues by raising pay, Shopify management hasn’t made any such promises.
And that may be increasing staff defections. Five recently departed employees pointed to pay as a factor driving them and others to jump ship. “The exits are a bit of a flood right now,” one said.

To be sure, Shopify has attracted plenty of talent over the past two years, nearly doubling its head count over that period to 10,000 employees. But much of its past hiring growth came during a very different environment, when Shopify’s stock price was soaring. It’s now fallen about 60% from a November peak to $660 per share. That has reduced the value of last year’s stock grants. Some options are currently worthless: Shopify granted nearly 216,000 options last year with an exercise price averaging $1,380, according to a company filing.
Snowflake ostaa Streamlitin
Mainitaan vielä, että ohjelmistoyhtiö Snowflake on ostanut datasovellusten rakentamiseen erikoistuneen Streamlitin 800 miljoonan dollarin hintaan. Streamlitin ydintuote on avoimenlähdekoodin projektin, jonka päälle yritys on rakentanut pilvipalvelua. Techcrunchilta:
Snowflake helps customers store and manage oodles of data in the cloud without cloud vendor lock-in. Streamlit is a startup that developed a popular open source project for building data-based apps. Seems like a pretty good match, and today Snowflake announced it was acquiring Streamlit for $800 million.
Benoît Dageville, co-founder and president of products at Snowflake, said the company became familiar with Streamlit as customers were using it, as were people in-house, and as they talked it seemed increasingly like a good fit. “We have both the same vision — Streamlit and Snowflake — which is all about democratizing access to data. I would describe it very simply as making it super easy to interact with data,” Dageville told me.
He said that Streamlit fills in a big missing piece in the platform by allowing data scientists and others to interact with the data and build apps that bring the data to life for non-technical users. Snowflake has all the technical pieces for accessing and managing the data in the cloud, but they lacked a native data visualization piece, and that’s what they’re getting with Streamlit.

“We continuously have these airstrike signals that something might happen, and people have to go to their shelters,” said Andrew Pavliv, chief executive of N-iX, a software-development company of nearly 2,000 employees with its biggest office in Lviv. But Mr. Pavliv says his company will deliver about 70% of promised services this week to its clients, which he says are largely in the U.S. and Europe.
“Your work is your escape zone and you try to not read the news,” Mr. Pavliv said.
