Twitch irtisanoo 35 % työvoimastaan
Teknologia-alan irtisanomiset näyttävtä jatkuvan, sillä Bloomberg raportoi livestriimaus palvelu Twitchin vähentävän 35 % työvoimastaan eli n. 500 työpaikkaa. Amazon osti Twitchin yhdeksän vuotta sitten, eikä yhtiö ole vieläkään kannattava vaikka se on viimeisen vuoden aikana jo irtisanonut 400 työntekijää ja panostanut mainostoimintaansa:
Amazon.com Inc.’s livestreaming site Twitch is poised to cut 35% of its staff, or about 500 workers, according to people familiar with the plans, the latest in a series of job reductions there.
The cuts, which could be announced as soon as Wednesday, come amid concerns over losses at Twitch and after several top executives left the company in the span of a few months. A Twitch spokesperson declined to comment.

Twitch has increased its focus on advertising in recent years. Nine years after Amazon’s acquisition of the company, the business remains unprofitable, according to the people, who asked not to be identified discussing private information.

The new chief has struggled to stem losses, however. Twitch undertook two rounds of layoffs last year, cutting over 400 positions, part of wider job reductions at Amazon.

SEC:n X -tilin hakkerointi aiheutti heilahtelua bitcoinin hinnassa
Koko kryptomaailma odottaa kuumeisesti USA:n Arvopaperi- ja pörssikomission (SEC) hyväksyvän Bitcoiniin sidottujen indeksiosuusrahastojen (ETF) hyväksyntää. SEC:n X -tili hakkeroitiin eilen, minkä jälkeen viraston tilillä julkaistiin ilmoitus bitcoin ETF:n hyväksymisestä.
Ilmoitus nosti bitcoinin hinnan hetkellisesti yli 48 000 dollarin, ennen kuin viraston tiedottaja ilmoitti tilin hakkeroinnista. Virallista päätöstä asiasta odotetaan tänään keskiviikkona. Wall Street Journalilta (WSJ):
The Securities and Exchange Commission’s official X account was hacked when the agency posted late Tuesday that it had approved exchange-traded funds holding bitcoin, forcing Chair Gary Gensler and the regulator to disavow the erroneous post.
Bitcoin briefly jumped to near $48,000 before Gensler said on the social-media network that the message was “unauthorized” and that the SEC “has not approved the listing and trading of spot bitcoin exchange-traded products.” The agency later posted that its account was “compromised.”
“It’s a hack,” a spokeswoman for the SEC said.

A decision on the funds is expected on Wednesday. For now, everyday investors who want to buy and sell digital currencies using traditional brokerages must use futures-based bitcoin ETFs, which use derivatives contracts to provide exposure to bitcoin price moves, or products traded in the lightly regulated over-the-counter market.
Keith Rabois palaa Khosla Venturesille
Ja lopuksi vielä VC-uutisia: Keith Rabois, yksi amerikkalaisen teknologia-alan tunnetuimmista kasvuyrityssijoittajista on vaihtamassa työpaikkaa Peter Thielin perustamasta Founder Fundista Vinod Khoslan Khosla Venturesiin. Rabois palaa Khoslalle, sillä hän aloitti VC-uransa siellä vuonna 2013 ja siirtyi Founders Fundille vuonna 2019.
The Informationin mukaan yksi syy Raboisn työpaikan vaihdokseen oli kulttuurillinen: Founders Fund ottaa mielellään ns. hands off -lähestymistavan sijoitettaviin kasvuyrityksiin, kun taas Khoslalla ollaan enemmän mukana sijoitettavien yritysten päivittäisessä toiminnassa:
Two days before Christmas, Founders Fund general partner Keith Rabois boarded a flight to Park City, Utah, to have dinner with Vinod Khosla, the founder of venture capital firm Khosla Ventures and an early backer of OpenAI. By the end of the evening, the pair had agreed that Rabois would join Khosla Ventures as a managing director, its most senior position, this month. He will leave his post at a rival VC firm, Founders Fund, where he led deals in credit card startup Ramp and the e-commerce company Faire.

In an interview, Rabois said he found Khosla’s culture a better fit. Khosla encourages lengthy weekly partner meetings with “unrestricted, unvarnished debate” and promotes hands-on involvement with portfolio companies, plus additional services for startups such as recruiting support, he said. Founders Fund is more “individualistic” and partners there have a “divergent set of styles,” he said.
“Founders Fund provides the capital and is happy to help when asked, which is very different from a mentorship model, which has been my forte,” Rabois said.
