Taiwanin maanjäristys vaikutti maan puolijohdevalmistajiin
Taiwanissa oli viime yönä 7,4 magnitudin maanjäristys, minkä seurauksena useat puolijohdeyritykset mukaan lukien maailman suurin puolijohteiden valmistaja TSMC, keskeyttivät toimintaansa. Bloombergilta:
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. and its closest rival evacuated factory areas after the biggest earthquake to hit its home island in 25 years, casting uncertainty over production at the world’s largest maker of advanced chips.
TSMC, the main contract chipmaker to Apple Inc. and Nvidia Corp., moved staff out of certain areas and said it’s assessing the impact of a temblor measuring 7.4 in magnitude off the east coast. The smaller United Microelectronics Corp. halted operations at some plants and evacuated certain facilities at its hubs of Hsinchu and Tainan, it said in a statement.

Elon Musk’s electric-vehicle maker delivered 386,810 vehicles globally in the first three months of 2024, down 8.5% from a year earlier. It was the company’s lowest quarterly performance since the third quarter of 2022.
The result was enough for Tesla to reclaim the title from China’s BYD as the world’s top electric-vehicle seller on a quarterly basis. Yet, it is a troubling sign for the world’s most valuable automaker and the overall EV market, where growth is slowing and automakers are recalibrating investment plans after finding consumers to be less enthusiastic about going electric than the companies had expected.
The first-quarter results rattled investors, sending shares down about 5% Tuesday. The company’s stock has fallen 33% this year through Tuesday, making it the second-worst performer in the S&P 500 index, ahead of only health insurer Humana.
Artifact myydään Yahoolle

Mike Krieger and Kevin Systrom, Artifact’s co-founders, will be “special advisors” for Yahoo but won’t be joining the company. Artifact’s remaining five employees have either gotten other jobs or are planning to take some time off.

So for example, Claude 3 is currently the warmest of the models. And it is the most allowed by its creators, Anthropic, I think, to act like a person. So it’s more willing to give you its personal views, such as they are. And again, those aren’t real views. Those are views to make you happy — than other models. And it’s a beautiful writer, very good at writing, kind of clever — closest to humor, I’ve found, of any of the A.I.s. Less dad jokes and more actual almost jokes.
GPT-4 feels like a workhorse at this point. It is the most neutral of the approaches. It wants to get stuff done for you. And it will happily do that. It doesn’t have a lot of time for chitchat. And then we’ve got Google’s Bard, which feels like — or Gemini now — which feels like it really, really wants to help. We use this for teaching a lot. And we build these scenarios where the A.I. actually acts like a counterparty in a negotiation. So you get to practice the negotiation by negotiating with the A.I. And it works incredibly well. I’ve been building simulations for 10 years, can’t imagine what a leap this has been. But when we try and get Google to do that, it keeps leaping in on the part of the students, to try and correct them and say, no, you didn’t really want to say this. You wanted to say that. And I’ll play out the scenario as if it went better. And it really wants to kind of make things good for you.
So these interactions with the A.I. do feel like you’re working with people, both in skills and in personality.
