Microsoft kertoi tekoälytuesta yhtiön työsovelluksiin
Microsoft esitteli eilen The Future of Work With AI -tapahtumassaan kielimalli-integraation yhtiön tunnettuihin Microsoft 365 -tuotteisiin, kuten Wordiin, Exceliin ja PowerPointtiin.
Yhtiö kutsuu uutta toiminnallisuutta nimellä Copilot, ja sen kanssa voi ohjeistaa tekoälyä esimerkiksi tekemään luonnoksia PowerPoint esityksistä, joita ihminen sitten muokkaa. Lisäksi kielimalleilla on pääsy henkilön Microsoft Graafiin, josta ne voivat hakea asiaankuuluvia tietoja kaikista Microsoftin ohjelmista. You can give it natural language prompts like “Tell my team how we updated the product strategy,” and it will generate a status update based on the morning’s meetings, emails and chat threads.

Baidun ChatGPT-kilpailija ei vakuuttanut sijoittajia
Kiinan johtaviin teknologiayhtiöihin kuuluva Baidu esitteli vihdoin oman ChatGPT -kilpailijan, Ernie Botin eilen torstaina. Nauhoitetulla demolla Ernie mm. teki matematiikan tehtäviä ja tuotti tekstiä eri Kiinan murteilla.
Demo ei kuitenkaan vakuuttanut sijoittajia, ja esityksen aikana yhtiön osake laski enimmillään n. 10 %. Kaupankäynnin päättyessä Hong Kongissa, oli Baidun osake laskenut lopulta yli 6 %, mikä vastasi kolmen miljardin dollarin menetystä yhtiön markkina-arvosta. Reutersilta:
China's Baidu unveiled its much-awaited artificial intelligence-powered chatbot known as Ernie Bot on Thursday, but disappointed investors with its use of pre-recorded videos and the lack of a public launch, sending its shares tumbling.

But unlike ChatGPT, which last November launched as a free to use chatbot to the public, Baidu limited the presentation to brief videos that showed Ernie carrying out mathematical calculations, speaking in Chinese dialects and generating a video and image with text prompts.
It will only be open for trial to an initial group of users with invitation codes from Thursday, while companies can apply to embed the bot into their products via Baidu's cloud platform, the company said.

Emmett Shear jättää Twitchin toimitusjohtajan pestin
Mainitaan vielä, että nykyään Amazonin omistaman livestriimaus-palvelu Twitchin perustajiin kuuluva ja toimitusjohtaja Emmett Shear jättää yhtiön. Shear kertoi asiasta Twitchin blogissa. Mies on työskennellyt tuotteen parissa 16 vuotta, ja kertoi aikovansa keskittyä seuraavaksi vastasyntyneeseen lapseensa. Shearin tilalle tulee yhtiön pitkäaikainen varajohtaja Dan Clancy. Twitchiltä:

Tyler Cowen kuvaili tällä viikolla Bloomberg-kolumnissaan mainiosti sitä miten GPT-4:n tyyliset kielimallit tulevat pian muuttamaan lapsuutta. Suurimmalla osalla (kaikilla?) lapsilla tulee olemaan pääsy jonkinlaiseen versioon GPT:stä, jolle voi esittää jatkuvasti kysymyksiä kun vanhemmat ovat kiireisiä tai joka opettaa vaikka kieliä tai musiikin soittamista:
Recent developments suggest that AI models can be both commoditized and customized more easily and cheaply than expected. So parents will be able to choose what kind of companion they want their kids to have — in contrast to the free-for-all of the internet. The available services likely will include education and tutoring, text or vocalizations of what the family pet might be thinking, dancing cartoon avatars, and much more. Companies will compete to offer products that parents think will be good for their kids. Some of the AIs might even read bedtime stories (in fact, I’ve already heard some of them).
Many parents may be reluctant to let their kids become attached to an AI. But I predict that most families will welcome it. For one, parents will be able to turn off the connection whenever they wish. Simply clicking a button is easier than yanking an iPad out of a kid’s grasp.
Most of all, letting your kid have an AI companion will bring big advantages. Your child will learn to read and write much faster and better, and will do better in school. Or maybe you want your kid to master Spanish or Chinese, but you can’t afford an expensive tutor who comes only twice a week. Do you want your child to learn how to read music? The AI services will be as limited or as expansive as you want them to be.
Mietin tätä asiaa oikeastaan jatkuvasti tällä hetkellä, meidän (pian) 1,5 vuotiaan kannalta. Veikkaan, että ihan viimeistään alakouluun mennessään tyttäremme kyselee GPT-tyyliseltä mallilta kaikenlaista ja varsinkin asioita joihin vanhempansa eivät osaa vastata. Lisäksi puheentunnistus näyttää myös kehittyvän nyt nopeasti, eli en yllättyisi jos mallien kanssa vuorovaikutetaan jatkuvasti enemmän puhumalla.
